ASSOCIATION OF KOREAN PHYSICISTS IN AMERICA
The OYRA award recognizes the outstanding achievements of early-career Korean physicists situated in North America. It is jointly administered by the Association of Korean Physicists in America (AKPA) and the Korean Physical Society (KPS).
ELIGIBILITY
Nominees must be ethnic Korean physicists employed in research at universities, institutions, industrial, or government labs in North America. They should also hold AKPA membership. The nominee should have received their most recent PhD on or after January 1, 2015. However, exceptions to this requirement are possible if the nominee experienced career interruptions due to circumstances like military service, prolonged medical leave, maternity leave, or child-rearing responsibilities. To apply for membership, visit: https://www.akpa.org/membership
NOMINATION
The nomination package should include:
A nomination letter outlining the significance and impact of the nominee's work; self-nomination is acceptable.
Supporting documents
The nominee’s CV, including a list of scientific publications
Two most important publications from the list
Two recommendation letters from fellow researchers supporting the nomination
SUBMISSION
All documents should be submitted electronically in PDF format to the AKPA OYRA Committee at oyra2024@akpa.org, with the subject line “OYRA 2024 for <nominee’s last name, first name>”. To ensure consideration, nominees need to arrange for all required materials to be submitted by March 31, 2024, 11:59 PM ET.
Nominees have the option to include a link to a video abstract in their CV—a concise, five-minute summary of their most significant research, tailored for non-specialists.
SELECTION AND PRESENTATION
The award committee will choose two awardees based on their scientific excellence. Awardees will receive notification via email and will be publicly announced on the AKPA website (https://www.akpa.org/) in April 2024. The awardees will receive a $1,500 award and will be invited to deliver a presentation during the AKPA-KPS symposium, which will take place virtually in the upcoming spring.
